Fire Ants Control in Brisbane
Red imported fire ant (RIFA) (Solenopsis invicta) is one of the worst invasive species in Brisbane and to reach Australia. Red imported fire ants can impact our environment and many industries, including agriculture, restrict everyday activities such as barbeques, picnics, and sporting events, inflict painful stings on people, pets, and livestock, cause extensive damage to ecological and agricultural systems.

Why We Service Brisbane
Brisbane is where fire ants were first found in Australia, back in 2001. More than two decades later they are established across the city's southern and western suburbs and still spreading north. That makes Brisbane the busiest part of our work, and the place where getting treatment right matters most.
Most of our Brisbane jobs come from a few common situations. A homeowner spots a low, flat patch of loose soil in the lawn or along a fence line, and the ants swarm when it is disturbed. A school, childcare centre or sports club finds nests where children play. A builder or developer needs a site cleared before work starts. On the western side of Brisbane we treated a school development site where our team found more than 500 nests across vacant land, and a separate block of development land with hundreds of active nests. Each nest was speared and injected to reach the queen. On the Redlands side, we were called out after fire ants had chewed through the wiring inside an electrical pit.
Brisbane's subtropical climate suits fire ants, and the city's constant building, landscaping and turf laying keeps moving them around. Soil, mulch, turf, potted plants and machinery can carry a colony to a new suburb in a single trip, which is why moving these materials inside the biosecurity zone comes with legal obligations.
We treat homes, schools, parks and construction sites across Brisbane, including Sunnybank, Mount Gravatt, Calamvale, Moorooka, Coorparoo, Carindale, Indooroopilly, Chapel Hill, The Gap, Clayfield, Chermside, Carseldine and Bracken Ridge. Every job follows the same licensed approach: we inspect, treat with nest injection or baiting, check the result and document it.
If you have found a nest on your Brisbane property, call us and we will tell you what needs to happen next.
More On Brisbane
Fire ant nests in Brisbane rarely look like the tall mounds people expect. They are usually low and flat, often just a patch of loose, disturbed soil in a sunny lawn, a garden bed or beside a footpath, with no obvious entry hole on top. Some show no mound at all. If ants pour out and swarm when the soil is disturbed, treat it as suspected fire ants and keep children and pets away.
Under the Biosecurity Act 2014 you must report suspected fire ants within 24 hours. The National Fire Ant Eradication Program takes those reports and runs its own treatment and surveillance. Fire Ant Solutions is a private, licensed business, not part of that program. People call us when they want nests treated on their own timeline, when there are several nests or a high risk site, or when they need a written record for a sale, a build or a soil movement.
There are two main ways we treat a Brisbane property. Direct nest injection puts a registered insecticide straight into the mound and its underground chambers. It kills the queen and the colony at the source, and activity usually drops within days. It suits single mounds, backyards, playgrounds and anywhere a sting is not acceptable. Baiting suits larger properties and multiple nests. Worker ants carry the bait back to the colony, and the colony collapses over several weeks. Many jobs use both.
Every Brisbane job follows the same steps. We inspect the property and confirm whether the ants are fire ants, treat every active nest we find, check the result, and give you a record of what was found and done. For builders, developers, schools and councils we can map nests across the whole site, so you have a clear record for auditors or insurers.
Don't wait for a nest to spread. One untreated mound can become several within weeks, so the sooner it is treated, the smaller the job.
